The varsity boys basketball team defeated Shaker Heights 66-58 to open up Greater Cleveland Conference play on Friday night. Beckett Miller finished with 22 points, six 3-pointers, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Garrett Myers had 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Ryan Harubin chipped in with 10 points and 4 rebounds, while Luke Webb had 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.
With the win, Head Coach Chris Hassinger became the program's all-time winningest coach. In his 12th year as boys basketball head coach, he improved his career record to 171-108 (.613), which includes 4 regional appearances and a 28-11 record in the postseason. He passed Medina County Sports Hall of Fame legend Keith Sooy, who went 170-73 (.700) in 11 seasons from 1987-98, including 12-11 in the tournament.
Medina improves to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the GCC.
In Thursday night action, both the freshman and JV boys' teams defeated Shaker Heights as well.
