The varsity boys basketball team defeated Shaker Heights 54-50 in overtime on Tuesday night. The overtime victory marks another thrilling GCC win for the Battling Bees on the road. Medina trailed 45-38 with a little over two minutes left in regulation, but the Bees turned up the pressure which led to turnovers and easy buckets. Garrett Myers drove to the hole and made a potential game-winning layup with 18 seconds left. However, the Raiders knocked down a pair of free throws to take the game into overtime. Brody Kopkas stepped up and scored all 7 points for the Bees in overtime, while Lucas Hogan came up with a huge blocked shot to preserve the win. Ryan Harubin led the team with 19 points, while Kopkas added 10. Hogan had 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 blocked shots. Myers and Beckett Miller added 7 points each.
Medina improves to 8-4 overall and 5-3 in the GCC.
The JV team also won by a score of 56-28.
