The varsity boys wrestling team defeated Brunswick on Senior Night in a thrilling 40-33 match on Thursday night. The Battling Bees had a stellar start winning the first 6 matches with pins by Landon Stolz (106) and Dominic DiFilippo (113). Taegan Gilmore (120) and Cooper Lavender (138) added technical falls, while Cooper Kaplack (126) and Tyler Bradshaw (132) added major decisions. Medina led the match 30-0 but the Blue Devils responded by coming back to take a 33-30 lead late with two matches left. Seniors Carson Merrill (215) and Cliff Nicholson (285) would put the Bees on top for good and finished the match with a major decision and a pin, respectively.
Medina improves to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in Greater Cleveland Conference competition. The Battling Bees can clinch a share of the GCC title with Brunswick (6-1) if it sweeps a triangular with Strongsville and Euclid. Medina will host the rescheduled tri match next Thursday to wrap up the regular season.
