It took extra innings for the varsity softball team to defeat GlenOak 5-4 on Monday afternoon in an OHSAA Division I District Semifinal at Medina. Senior Katie Rubino led off the bottom of the 8th inning with a double down the left field line, which was her 2nd hit of the day. She was then moved over to 3rd on a perfect sacrifice bunt by freshman Bailey McCoy. Senior Ryann Allar would play the role of hero with the game-winning walk-off RBI single to left field scoring Rubino. Seniors Kelsey Swinko and Olivia Hendrickson both had 2-RBI singles in the 1st inning to give the Bees the lead. Freshman Brooke Housum battled all day and earned the win in the circle by pitching all 8 innings and striking out 5 batters.
Medina improves to 19-6 overall and now advance to the District Championship. The Bees will face the Jackson Polar Bears on Wednesday afternoon at 5pm. The game will take place on the campus of Massillon Washington High School.
